Progress, or not

I have been knitting the shawl. And then taking it out. And then knitting it again.

Here's a picture from last week:

ShowLetter

I'm not this far anymore. I'm about to add the fourth and fifth snowdrops again. Except that I am not because the left end is wonky and I need to take out at least four rows.

I think the issue is that I need full attention on knitting while I work on this. When I was sitting outside with a cup of coffee yesterday knitting away, all was good. When I was at home, trying to count yarn overs and trying to watch Carly Patterson flip around on the uneven bars...well, no wonder my yarn overs are out of place! This needs to be zen knitting. This needs to be music in the background, looking at my needles knitting.

Anyway, the pattern is great. I found one mistake in the chart (Steph, I'll drop you an email) but all is well. I just need to pay attention. This may be sitting on the porch in Nova Scotia knitting. Bliss!

Baby update:
The momma (my little sis) thought this baby was making an early arrival on Sunday night. Turns out Cathy has a kidney stone but it made for a few scary hours in the er. She's had a kidney stone before and says the pain is worse than labor! Keep her and the darling baby girl in your thoughts and prayers (if you say 'em!). That girl needs some more time to cook before joining us! And her Auntie needs more knitting time!

Yarn acquisition

I walked to Rosie's Yarn Cellar yesterday after work and picked up 600 yards of Zephyr yarn in Vanilla (it's white, people!). I only got 600 yards because I'm a little nervous about actually being able to handle this. If it seems like it's going to work, I'll go buy the rest next week.

So far, so good.

I had to tink back a few rows at one point. Things were wonky on the left edge. I think it's fixed but we'll see. I have a few more rows until I start the first snowdrop. I think I'll manage that okay. That section is still charted. I'm concerned about adding the 4th and 5th snowdrops- not charted. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Anyway, I like this. I think I could stand to use needles with a sharper point. These Inox circulars are pretty blunt. I may switch if they are too tough to work with as I go along but so far, they're working. I usually use bamboo needles but I thought the lace yarn may jog too much on the bamboo. The stitches are moving nice and smoothly on the metal.

So far, so good!

Yarn Selection

Jody mentioned on Saturday that she saw some lace weight yarn at Rosie's Yarn Cellar but thought it must have been labeled incorrectly because it was only $8.00.

Nope, it was labeled correctly. 600 yards of zephyr yarn for $8.00. I need 1400+ yards so I'll be buying 6 ounces (1800 yards), $24 worth. Can't beat that!!

Here's the link if you are interested in ordering it online.

Click on yarn stash on the left bar and scroll down to Zephyr.

I'm thinking Vanilla but would go with Pewter or Lady Slipper depending on how they look in person.

Special Project

Thanks for stopping over. I'll be blogging here to write about a special project I am going to make for my new niece due to arrive in early October. Updates will be posted here since the momma (my little sister Cathy) reads my blog daily!

I'm planning on making Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's Snow Drop Shawl. The idea is to give this as a gift on day I meet the baby, hopefully the day that she is born. She can be wrapped in it as an infant and then have it for special occasions when she is older- the prom, her wedding, etc. This will be my first major lace project. I have not even bought the yarn yet! But I understand that Rosie's Yarn Cellar has a decent selection of lace weight yarn so I'll be browsing soon.

If you are an experienced lace knitter, I'd love to know so that I can call on you for help!

Updates to this site will be announced on my blog, Rainbow Chills.
